Marathon of Britain - Race update 3

Dan checked in before the start...

'Good morning - it's coming up to 7:30am, August 1st - about to get out the briefing for day one this crazy event... 175 miles to go I think is the phrase. Not much sleep last night and gave up looking at the map around 10 o'clock just realising that I just need to get out onto the route and follow it as much as I can.. Victoria and I are go to try and work something out so we know where each other are at any given point in time..today I'll find out if I can follow it while I run..

Lot of laughter in the tent then - which takes my mind of the map reading that's about to come - which is good. There's a good mix in the tent - in fact Rob, Anke and Andy (who was last years winner). I don't know how I ended up in a tent with someone who could potentially win.

He (presumeably Andy) spent last night saying how easy the map reading was so he had a little map reading school, so I suppose that all helps as well - all I need to do now is remember it.

Todays stages starts at 10am - it should be 16-17 miles - but I'll let you know the distance I cover later. Victoria and I have sorted out our baclpacks and got the weight down so their nice and comfortable and we're as ready as we can be - so we just need to get on with it..

Wish me luck! Come back later and hopefully by around 2-3pm we'll be able to let you know how we got on during day one.
