Steve_Partridge | Thursday 7 April - Arrival in Morocco - Steve Partridge
The British team arrived in Morocco today and were initiated into a forgotten art - queuing! We queued for this and we queued for that and then, finally, settled down to a meal under the night sky and the warm Sahara evening. Its dark here by 8pm and once the race starts we will be in bed every night by this time.
I'll report every day on the state of the race, the teams and highlight certain individuals. If a person is not mentioned it will be because they are ok and continuining to run.

Well, it's almost time to leave and we are doing our last minute gear and food prep. I wasn't able to change much but I did add a bit more food to my kit. Final weight is about 15 pounds or just under 7 kilos. Mostly food and a lightweight sleeping bag.
The Americans arrived yesterday and were headed out for a run with Lahcen Ahansal this morning ! We were invited to go as Lisa is mine and Sandy's coach, but we decided to go ahead earlier this morning for a quick 20 minutes. I wanted to get back and do some last minute glueing of my shoes! We ship off to the desert on Friday morning. It's totally awesome how involved the local people are in the Marathon Des Sables. The small town of Ourazazat is over-run by runners!

Steve_Partridge | 20th Marathon des Sables - Report on the Race (Steve Partridge)
There is one day before the 307 British contingent flies out for the start of the 20th Marathon des Sables. Their living rooms are awash with kit as each contestant tries to cram their equipment and 14,000 calories of food and medical supplies into their rucksacks. Steve Partridge - a veteran of the race - will be sending back daily reports on their progress and ups and downs.
Stay tuned!

Almost time to leave!
We leave tomorrow and I am really getting stoked! Our flight leaves at around 6:00 pm so we should arrive 7 or 8 hours later.
I think I have gear all ironed out. My kit weighs in at around 6.5 kilos which is a half kilo lighter then last year. Odd, because I have way more food! This year I am going to rely mainly on dehydrated food with the occasional bar. Mashed potatos and dehydrated gravy...mmm...

Ray_Zahab | Marathon des Sables 2005 Pre-race report
Hey Everyone!
Back on track after Trans 333 and now focusing on my second go at Marathon Des Sables! Last year was awesome and I am hoping to have as much fun and make new friends again at Marathon Des Sables and other events on my schedule.
I learned so-o-o much from my experience at Marathon DS las tyear and I am applying these new things for this year. What you ask? Well, last year my combination of duct tape and shoe goo is out-apparently sand finds it's way through almost impossible barriers! This year I am going to adopt a new gator system I used in the Trans 333- I didn't get any blisters in that gig at all! I basically glued very light rip-stop to the front of my shoes and then sewed a lycra short gator together. Seemed to work really well. Next- water stations. I have a whole new plan for the half hour I lost on the week last year filling bottles. I'll fill you in (no pun intended) when I am racing to tell you if it works.
